How India lost Balochistan and NWFP

Today one of India's biggest problem is the security of its borders that is being regularly disturbed by joint effort of pakistan and China. As many of us know that we had done a big blunder in case of Tibet as we don't had and border with China in 1947.

Similarly the mistakes done by us in case of pakistan is not only limited to kashmir but we had also done some major mistakes in the case of Balochistan and NWFP (two of the four provinces of pakistan which consists of more then 60% land are of pakistan)

Referendum in NWFP

NWFP was the only muslim mejority provinces left with congress after the provincial election of 1946. The congress with his partner red shirt had an absolute majority in the province under the leadership of Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan ( Badshah Khan)

The drama started in 1946 after pt. Nerhu become the vice President under cabinet mission. His oath changed the entire environment of the province. While congress committee of frontier was not happy with the decision as they had suggested for Sardar Patel . On the other hand muslim league started presenting it as Brahmin Hindu rule and started mass protest against it. At the time Nerhu had done a great blunder as he asked Wavell( viceroy) that this  action must be stopped immediately and that the would visit the frontier. The provincial authorities in turn warned the Viceroy that they would not be responsible for Nehru's safety , the provincial congress committee also suggested him not to visit as it may give a chance to league to paln against congress. The other major congress leaders like Sardar Patel and Azad also tried to stop him but he didn't. When Nerhu flew into the airfield at peshawar he met by large number of leaguers waving black flag. On his tour of the tribal area, snipers' bullets ploughed the air round the car he travelled in and stones struck it, the intention being that, while he should be convinced that he and the Congress lacked popular support, his life should not be endangered. Jinnah seized on the opportunity to demand fresh elections in the province. The fresh election proved as disastrous for congress as it t his mejority as the red shirt decided not to put up his condidate for election and the league notched a victory with just  50.49% . Azad blamed Nerhu for his impetuosity in visiting the frontier and playing into the hands of anti- congress force , Patel agreed with Azad.

Request of The Baloch king

Mir Ahmadyar Khan( king or Khan of kalat) offered india for its accession but refused by the Indian leaders. Azad argued in the assembly that it was to far from indian coast. Nerhu also stated that we had nothing to do with Balochistan. On 27th March 1948 VP Menon the secretary in the Ministry of States. The press conference by Menon said, “ the Khan of Kalat was pressing India to accept Kalat’s accession, but added that India would have nothing to do with it.”

Patel was shocked to listen this and contradicTed the secratary but the damage was done. As on the same day pakistan launched attack on Balochistan and  occupied it.

Today Balochistan and NWFP are the two major territory by which one can reach to central and west Asia. Balochistan's Gwadar port has been developed as a navel base by the Chinese army.

These were some of the mistakes that was done by us which gave our enemy a chance to make a ring of their military base around us.
